Description of Practice :
I am presently in the academic sector of Dental Hygiene in the role of adjunct instructor in the clinical setting as well as instructing a blend-ed class preparing students for the National Boards Exam at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. �I have also worked in community service with the students in both sealant programs and Flouride varnish programs for Head Start Children.
Previous to NWTC I was in private practise in a general dentistry office which afforded me an opportunity to practise a wide range of dental hygiene specifics. �I managed the dental hygiene department. �It was during this time that I became active in advocating for better dental hygiene for LTC residents. �I compiled a handbook for the aids and spoke publically to the family alliance on the subject. �
I was also very involved in the 'Kids Day America' campaign and volunteered with a dental table to educate both parents and children on the importance of dental care.
I have worked in the community dental healthcare field for Health Care America�providing on site dentistry for underprivledged children. �Setting up portable dental units at schools and the Boys and Girls club.
I have worked in a dental hygiene compacity for the Mission of Mercy; a three day massive undertaking with hundreds of volunteers serving to provide all types of dental care to the underprivledged population who cannot afford or find dental help. �

How do you try to make a difference in the lives of your patients?
I am first and foremost an advocate for them. Whether it be in private practise or in the community, I work to improve their access to care and see that they get the care they need.
Teaching and Speaking :
In a volunteer capacity I participated in a training program for caregivers at My Innovative Services, a company that has many homes for people with special needs. The training consisted of oral hygiene for people with special needs as well as explaining the importance of good dental care and how it relates to systemic issues.
Speaking engagement at a family council meeting for a long term care facility expoounding on the importance of better dental care for residents of LTCs. Related issues of systemic problems resulting in and contributing to poor oral hygiene.
Presently working in an adjunct compacity for Northeast Wisconsin Technical College as a clinical instructor as well as teaching a blend-ed class preparing the students for the Dental Hygiene National Boards Exam.
Attributes Success To:
Being grounded. I grew up on a wheat farm in Saskatchewan and learned how to work and not quit until the job was done. �I have had good mentors along the way that have lifted me up when need be. �I guess I have just never known how to give up or give in. Being a people person and a good communicater, I have mentored people and encouraged others in their journeys bringing joy and abundance in my life.
