How do you try to make a difference in the lives of your patients?
Being born in Afghanistan I experience living in an environment that lacked proper health care structure, as a result I lost members of my family members to preventable illnesses. All my efforts thus far has been to prevent communities from devolving into what my hometown was time. As a hopeful future physician, my goal is very simple, to serve populations that lack access to proper care and address all their needs, and I feel family medicine will let me do that.
Professional Society Memberships :
American College of Physicians
Teaching and Speaking :
After spending 4 months working with 3 very different family practitioners I became certain that family medicine is where my personality and professional goals all align. It is family practitioners serve as the gatekeepers of medicine and with whom patients feel the strongest attachment as a result of the continuity of care. It is through this attachment that one can have a unique opportunity to impact the wellbeing of not just individuals but entire community. This level of impact can be achieved by constant surveillance, early detection, and promotion of healthy lifestyles; some of of the many things that teaching and Speaking can be incoporated in my work.
Research Interests :
I was part of a research project that looked at effects of chemotherapy agents on heart contractility using isolated perfused rat heart models. I designed and modified experimental protocols. I set up and monitored study models, collected and analyzed data using various statistical models. I hope to get involved with reaserch in the field of Cancer.
Attributes Success To:
My upbringing was less than conventional. As a small girl, in a society like that, my capabilities and potentials were always underestimated. I grew up craving for an opportunity to prove my worth to the world. That craving to be somebody eventually molded me to a person who has a strong desire to excel in anything I do. Time after time that desire has allowed me to exceed expectations put forth for me.
